Budapest Wine Festival 2026: Tickets, Hours and Castle Access
The ticket you choose shapes the afternoon you can have. Here is how to plan the 35th festival, from the first tasting to the last ride back to your hotel.
A festival ticket, a tasting glass and a VIP supplement buy three different things. At Budapest Wine Festival 2026, understanding those distinctions makes the difference between a well-planned afternoon and an arrival spent sorting out purchases. The 35th edition runs September 9–12 at Buda Castle, with Hungarian wines and a program spotlighting the Americas. The organizer confirms the four-day festival dates.
Start with the time you can realistically reach the entrance. An Explorer ticket suits an earlier arrival; a standard daily ticket gives you a different entry window; VIP access is an additional purchase. Then decide how much of your visit belongs to tasting, conversation and the setting itself.
This guide focuses on the decisions visitors need to make during festival week. Ticket prices and practical information were checked on September 8, 2026. Check the organizer’s current information again before purchasing or setting out, particularly if your plans depend on a specific session or late departure.
The decisions to make first
- Choose the visit date and a realistic entrance time before buying.
- Separate festival admission from extra tastings and VIP access.
- Match your departure plan to the exit you expect to use.
Budapest Wine Festival tickets: what the options cost
The official ticket shop lists the following admission options. Prices are in Hungarian forints and reflect the September 8 check; the live checkout remains the source for the purchase you actually make. Compare the organizer’s current tickets.
| Ticket | Visit day | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | Wednesday or Thursday | HUF 8,900 |
| Daily | Friday or Saturday | HUF 9,900 |
| Explorer | Wednesday or Thursday | HUF 4,450 |
| Explorer | Friday | HUF 4,950 |
| Four-day pass | September 9–12 | HUF 16,900 |
A four-day pass is worth comparing if you already intend to return on another date. A single-day visitor should instead concentrate on the conditions of the ticket for that day. Buying more access only helps if the rest of the trip leaves time to use it.
Explorer tickets require an earlier decision
Explorer admission requires entry before 5 p.m., although guests may remain until closing. It is sold online only, until midnight before the visit date. Do not leave that purchase until the morning you intend to attend. A Saturday Explorer option was not listed in the official shop at the time of checking.
Plan an Explorer visit as one continuous stay. The organizer’s pages describe reentry restrictions differently, so confirm the current conditions before leaving the grounds. If your flight arrival, hotel check-in or afternoon meeting makes the entrance deadline uncertain, choose your ticket around that uncertainty.
What admission includes—and what you buy separately
According to the organizer’s ticket conditions, daily tickets and the four-day pass include a branded crystal tasting glass and one complimentary tasting at the VinAgora and Borkult Selection stand. Admission does not mean that every wine on the grounds is included.
Think of admission as the starting point for your visit. Leave room in your spending plan for the additional wines and food you actually choose. Before accepting a pour, ask what that particular tasting costs and what quantity is being served.
VIP access is a supplement
The shop lists Culinaris Wine & Music VIP supplements for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at HUF 15,000 per day, or HUF 25,000 for all three VIP days. You still need valid festival admission. Someone holding only a VIP supplement should not treat it as a complete entrance ticket.
For a small group, check every person’s combination of purchases before arrival. One shared message listing the date, admission type and any supplement is more useful than discovering at the gate that different guests bought different access.
Festival opening hours and the last-entry detail
The published schedule below uses Budapest local time. Friday and Saturday closing times fall after midnight, on the following calendar date. See the official location and opening-hours page.
| Date | Opens | Closes |
|---|---|---|
| Wednesday, September 9 | 3 p.m. | Midnight |
| Thursday, September 10 | 3 p.m. | Midnight |
| Friday, September 11 | 2 p.m. | 1 a.m. |
| Saturday, September 12 | 2 p.m. | 1 a.m. |
Ticket offices close one hour before the festival, and prepaid tickets must also be redeemed by then. A ticket in your inbox does not make an arrival just before closing a workable plan.
Choose an arrival time that gives your visit a beginning, a middle and an unhurried departure. If you want both a focused tasting and time to talk over food, avoid treating the final hour as a substitute for a full evening.
Build a tasting plan around the 2026 program
The Americas provide this year’s international focus. The organizer describes four thematic flights: California Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, Argentine Malbec, Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, and American traditional-method sparkling wines from Schramsberg. These are separately ticketed additions, used alongside valid festival admission. Explore the official Americas tasting program.
The add-on tickets can be redeemed at the Guest of Honor stands on the Savoy Terrace from opening until 8 p.m. The published serving is 0.5 deciliter per wine, approximately 1.7 fluid ounces. That matters when comparing a flight with an individual glass: you are choosing a structured series of small tastes.
For a useful starting point, pick one grape or style you already enjoy, then use the visit to compare it with something less familiar. Keep a short note of producer names and wines you would want to find again. The point is to leave with a clearer sense of your own preferences.
Check the language of guided sessions
The festival also advertises twice-daily pop-up tastings at the Jazzy Stage in Csikós Courtyard, without advance registration or an additional participation charge. The sessions are conducted in Hungarian; valid festival admission is still needed. English-speaking visitors should factor that language choice into their plans. Read the pop-up tasting details.
Ask exhibitors directly about the wines you are considering. An individual conversation may suit your interests better than building the entire visit around a guided program whose language you do not understand. Check the current program for session timing before committing the afternoon to it.
Plan for the palace grounds, not just “Buda Castle”
“Buda Castle” is too broad a meeting-point instruction. The festival’s official access information identifies approaches from Szent György Street, Palota Road via the Csikós Courtyard lifts, and Várkert Bazár via internal stairs and lifts or the Vízhordó Stairs. Agree on the actual entrance and walking route you intend to use.
The Csikós Courtyard lifts operate only until 1 a.m. under the published festival arrangements. That requires particular attention if you hold VIP access on Friday or Saturday, when the VIP area is listed as staying open until 2 a.m. Confirm your exit route before settling on a late pickup. Check the organizer’s entrance and lift information.
For anyone who needs to avoid stairs, discuss the complete route from vehicle to entrance and back before booking transport. The existence of a lift on one approach does not establish that every part of an individual visit will meet a traveler’s mobility needs.

Fisherman’s Bastion belongs to the wider Castle District sightseeing experience. It is not the festival entrance. If you combine the two, keep the sightseeing stop and festival meeting point distinct in your itinerary and messages.
Bring a workable payment method
The festival is cashless. Its payment guidance lists contactless Mastercard PayPass and Visa payWave, alongside the Festipay card system; SZÉP cards are not accepted. Review the organizer’s payment guidance.
Before you leave the hotel, check that your intended payment method works for contactless purchases and that you can access your tickets. If you plan to use a festival card, ask at the current information point about its fees and refund process. Do not base those details on an older festival visit.
Settle the ride home before the first tasting
A clear return arrangement gives the evening a practical finish. Share the date, hotel address, group size, chosen entrance, expected departure time and a reachable contact number when requesting transport. If your party is splitting between dinner, a VIP session and an earlier hotel return, explain that before a vehicle is selected.

VanBudapest.com can discuss a private transfer request against your itinerary and the current fleet. The meeting point and vehicle approach need confirmation for the specific visit; booking a chauffeur does not confer permission to drive into a controlled festival area.
For a more detailed comparison of a direct transfer and a vehicle arranged around a wider evening, see our Budapest Wine Festival transfer guide. Keep that transport decision separate from the festival admission purchase.

A sightseeing stop after the festival is an additional itinerary request. Raise it when asking for a quote, especially if some travelers need an earlier return. A specific plan is easier to price and coordinate than an open-ended promise to decide everything at the exit.
Leave room for wine country on another day
The festival can help you decide what you would like to explore further. A wine you enjoy in Budapest may be the starting point for a later winery visit, but a conversation at a festival stand is not a confirmed cellar reservation.

If you add a wine-country outing to the trip, confirm the winery appointment, language, tasting format and transport separately. Keep it on another day if combining it with the festival would leave you rushing between commitments. A smaller plan with time for questions can be more rewarding than a long list of stops.
Budapest Wine Festival 2026: practical questions
Does a ticket include unlimited wine?
No. The organizer lists a tasting glass and one complimentary VinAgora and Borkult Selection tasting with daily admission and the four-day pass. Additional wines and separately ticketed flights are separate purchases.
Can I buy an Explorer ticket on the day?
The published terms say Explorer tickets are sold online until midnight before the visit date. Entry must take place before 5 p.m. Check availability and the exact conditions in the official shop before purchasing.
Is a VIP supplement enough to enter?
No. It must be combined with valid festival admission for the relevant day. Check that every member of your group holds both elements if you plan to visit the VIP area together.
Are the pop-up tastings in English?
The official description says the pop-up tastings are conducted in Hungarian. Do not assume an English-language guided session is included; check individual program descriptions and ask exhibitors about language directly.
Can a private driver drop us at any castle entrance?
The exact vehicle approach and meeting point must be confirmed for the date and applicable access arrangements. Send your intended entrance and any mobility requirements when requesting transport.
