Private Wine Tour from Budapest: Ten Wineries, Five Regions
Choose the wine. Leave room for lunch. Let someone else drive.
A private wine tour from Budapest starts with a good decision: which region deserves your day? Tokaj offers Furmint and Aszú, Eger brings white and red blends into the same conversation, Etyek keeps the journey short, Villány rewards a longer drive, and Badacsony puts Lake Balaton beside the vines. The estates below publish their own tasting and visitor programs; each offers a different reason to leave the city.
This is a guide to ten wineries across five regions, with a vehicle suggestion for every stop. Choose one region for a day trip, or give the longer routes an overnight stay. VanBudapest.com can provide the private chauffeur and vehicle around your confirmed appointments, so everyone in your party can enjoy the tasting.

Which wine region fits your day?
Taste is only part of the choice. The length of the drive, the format of the tasting and the time you want at the table matter just as much.

Tokaj: for the bottle you will remember
Dry Furmint, Aszú and cellar visits worth traveling for.
Tokaj asks for time. Its UNESCO-listed historic wine landscape is a setting of vineyards, settlements and cellars, while its producers offer much more than a single sweet-wine tasting. At Disznókő, dry Furmint can introduce the conversation before Aszú; at HOLDVÖLGY, the cellar itself becomes part of the experience.
For a Tokaj wine tour from Budapest, decide whether the priority is a broad introduction or a more focused tasting of vintages. Two substantial visits plus lunch make a long day once the return drive is included. If a slow dinner matters, ask us to price an overnight itinerary.

Disznókő
Disznókő’s estate visits connect the vineyard with the glass: guided programs can take in the vines, winemaking facilities and underground cellars. The published tasting selection ranges from a first encounter with dry Furmint and Aszú to more detailed explorations of the estate’s wines. Allow roughly one to two hours for the visit you select, then leave time for a meal rather than immediately adding another appointment. English-language visits are offered, and advance booking is recommended. Confirm the precise program and seasonal opening before setting your departure from Budapest.
VIP Sprinter. Our choice for a small group making the longer journey to Tokaj: a separate, comfortable seat for each guest and a relaxed cabin for the return. View the fleet.

HOLDVÖLGY
At HOLDVÖLGY in Mád, tastings unfold within a cellar system extending about 1.8 kilometers; that describes the network, not a promise that every tour walks its full length. Some programs use a map and a treasure-hunt format to introduce the wines, while an Aszú experience offers a more focused comparison of vintages. Most published tours run around one and a half to two hours, with the Aszú program taking longer. English and Hungarian visits are available by arrangement. Bring a layer and comfortable shoes for the cool cellar, and choose the tasting before building the rest of the day around it.
VIP Sprinter. A fitting option for friends or collectors who want an unhurried return after a detailed tasting. Confirm your party size and luggage when requesting the vehicle. View the fleet.

Eger: two colors, two very different visits
A white blend, a red blend and a reason to look beyond one famous name.
An Eger wine tasting tour can move between Egri Csillag and Egri Bikavér, the region’s signature white and red blends. Choose estates with different visitor experiences and the day gains shape: St.Andrea’s estate setting in Egerszalók, then a cellar address in Eger itself. Remember that Egerszalók is a separate stop; it should appear correctly on the chauffeur’s itinerary.
For a first visit, ask each winery for a tasting that complements the other. There is little benefit in filling the afternoon with more glasses simply because another appointment will fit.
St.Andrea Szőlőbirtok
The St.Andrea estate experiences give visitors a structured introduction to the winery’s range in Egerszalók. Its Classicus program lists six wines and approximately one and a half hours, with a cellar visit included; longer selections are also offered. It is a useful starting point for exploring the estate’s approach to Eger wines without making the tasting the entire afternoon. Book ahead and wait for the winery’s confirmation, including the language and program you need. Use the estate address in Egerszalók when planning transport, rather than a similarly named Budapest venue.
Mercedes V-Class. Well suited to a couple traveling with friends or a small private party. The shorter walk from one shared vehicle also makes departures between appointments straightforward. View the fleet.

Kovács Nimród Winery
Kovács Nimród Winery offers tastings by appointment, with selections that introduce its wines and the work behind them. The winery occupies seven connected historic cellars on Verőszala in Eger, giving this stop a different setting from an open vineyard terrace. Choose a tasting flight with the host rather than assuming every label or cellar area will be available on the day. Visits can be arranged for individuals and groups, including weekends by prior agreement. It is a good second estate to consider when you want the afternoon to stay close to Eger rather than add a longer regional drive.
Mercedes Sprinter. Our recommendation for a larger wine club or group of friends: travel together, keep the tasting reservation under one headcount, and match the minibus to the confirmed group. View the fleet.

Villány: make room for reds—and lunch
Two established cellar names for a day with a slower middle.
Villány is the choice here for travelers who want to put red wine at the center of the day. Attila Gere and Bock both publish visitor programs, so the planning can start with a real tasting appointment. Leave the lunch slot generous and decide early whether you want to return to Budapest that evening or stay in the region.
The vehicle should make the road comfortable, but the itinerary still needs restraint. A winery visit, lunch and one carefully chosen second stop are a better starting brief than a list of every cellar you have heard of.

Attila Gere
The Attila Gere winery visit introduces the cellar and the estate’s wines through a guided program and tasting. For a first visit, it offers a way into the producer’s story before choosing bottles to take home. A separate seasonal vineyard outing, offered from May through October for up to six guests, adds a view of the estate from the slopes. That winery-run program depends on an appointment and suitable weather, and is separate from your chauffeur transport. Choose the experience first, then give it a comfortable part of the day, with enough time to ask questions before lunch.
VIP Sprinter. A considered choice for a small celebration or private group on the longer southern route. Tell us about overnight bags and any expected wine purchases when requesting the quote. View the fleet.

Bock Cellar
Bock’s cellar program combines a guided introduction to the winery with a tasting of two wines. The distinctive circular cellar, known as the Bock Chapel, adds an architectural reason to look beyond the bottle. The adjacent Óbor Restaurant provides an option for a separate meal reservation, subject to its current service. Group visits need advance arrangement, with the current tour time and price confirmed directly. Bock works well as the anchor of a group day: a cellar appointment followed by a lunch that has room to run at its own pace.
Mercedes Sprinter. A practical pairing for a larger group visiting Bock. We size the vehicle to the party; the winery still needs to confirm that same number of guests for its program. View the fleet.

Etyek: a shorter drive, a full-flavored afternoon
The easiest region in this guide to shape into a shorter escape.
If the diary leaves only part of a day free, start with an Etyek wine tour from Budapest. Etyeki Kúria describes a cool, breezy growing area with limestone-rich soils, a setting for white wines, sparkling wines and Pinot Noir. The appeal is the balance: a comparatively short road journey, then enough time to sit down and taste properly.
A half-day works best with one confirmed appointment. Add lunch and a second winery and you are planning a fuller day, especially once hotel pickup and the drive back are included.
Haraszthy
Haraszthy’s tasting programs offer five-, six- or seven-wine selections, with published durations of roughly one and a half to two and a half hours. The visit introduces winery spaces such as the press hall, cellar and Knight’s Hall, alongside the wines. Standard programs list groups of four to twelve, with larger parties requiring separate arrangements. Book the visit in advance, especially for a weekend, and confirm the language with the winery. Choose the length of the tasting first: the more extensive program needs a different afternoon than a quick stop on the way back to Budapest.
Mercedes V-Class. A natural match for four to six friends enjoying a private Etyek afternoon. For a larger tasting party, ask for the appropriate Sprinter instead. View the fleet.

Etyeki Kúria
Etyeki Kúria’s weekend-and-holiday Start tasting introduces five wines over approximately sixty to ninety minutes, with water and pogácsa, the small savory Hungarian pastry. It is a manageable format for a shorter afternoon, with English available by prior arrangement. Reserve ahead and confirm the exact meeting point for the program you select. The regular tasting explains the wines and winemaking but does not include access to the production floor; any special winery or vineyard event needs its own arrangements. That distinction matters if your main interest is seeing how the wine is made rather than enjoying a seated tasting.
Mercedes V-Class. Our suggestion for a private visit with a small party, especially when your available time favors one well-chosen appointment and a direct return to the hotel. View the fleet.

Badacsony: white wine with a lake view
Give the northern shore its own day.

A Badacsony wine tour brings the lake into the itinerary without making the entire day a lakeside drive. At Laposa, names such as Olaszrizling, Szürkebarát and Kéknyelű give you a starting point for exploring the local whites. Across the wider wine district, Szászi Birtok offers another setting on Szent György Hill near Hegymagas.
Choose the actual tasting address before planning a scenic stop. The region covers more than one village, and a terrace, a restaurant and a production winery may be separate destinations even when they share an estate name.

Laposa
Laposa Borterasz is the hillside choice for tasting flights with a panoramic setting, while Hableány has a separate winery and restaurant address in Badacsony. Decide which experience you want before booking: a terrace tasting and a prearranged winery visit are different plans. The estate’s wines offer an introduction to varieties including Olaszrizling, Szürkebarát and Kéknyelű. Confirm opening, tasting format and any meal reservation directly, particularly outside the main terrace season. Tell your chauffeur the chosen venue as well as the Laposa name, so the arrival and pickup are planned for the right place.
Mercedes V-Class. Our recommendation for a small party combining a Laposa visit with time by the lake. Give us the exact venue and any walking or step-free access needs before the day. View the fleet.

Szászi Birtok
Szászi Birtok’s arranged group tasting lists six wines with snacks and is available for parties of at least six by prior agreement. Its Hegymagas setting gives a Badacsony-region day a different point of view from the waterfront. The estate explicitly restricts group cellar visits in autumn, so confirm the tasting setting rather than assuming a production-cellar tour is included. Its current visitor information also distinguishes the wine shops from the seasonal Viridárium restaurant; an open wine shop does not guarantee restaurant service. Agree the program, language, group size and any food request directly before fixing the transport.
Mercedes Sprinter. A useful choice when the tasting grows into a larger friends-and-family or wine-club outing. For a smaller group of six, compare the V-Class and VIP Sprinter options with us. View the fleet.

How much of the day is spent traveling?
These are published one-way references, not guaranteed hotel-to-winery journey times. Your pickup address, first estate, traffic and stops can change the plan.
| Region | Published reference | Our planning suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| Etyek | About 30 minutes · Haraszthy reference | One tasting for a shorter escape; allow a full day for two visits and lunch. |
| Eger | About 1 hour 45 minutes · VanBudapest.com route reference | A full day, with space between appointments. |
| Badacsony | About 2 hours · Laposa reference | Focus on one part of the north shore; confirm the exact venues. |
| Villány | About 2 hours 15 minutes · Bock reference | A long day, or stay overnight if dinner is a priority. |
| Tokaj | About 2 hours 45 minutes · VanBudapest.com route reference | A carefully paced long day; consider an overnight for deeper exploration. |
These references describe different published routes and are not directly interchangeable. We plan your actual itinerary from the addresses and appointments you provide, including the return journey and time between wineries.
Choose the vehicle around the people
Everyone travels together. No one in your party has to leave the tasting early to become the driver.
A private circle
Published capacity: 6–7 passengers, depending on configuration. Our first suggestion for couples traveling together, friends or a small family party.
Space for eight
The fleet lists an 8-passenger VIP option. Consider it for a small group that wants a more spacious cabin on a longer Tokaj or Villány itinerary.
The group stays together
Published options span 14–20 passengers. Match the actual minibus to your confirmed headcount, luggage and winery reservation.
See the VanBudapest.com fleet for vehicle options. Tell us about overnight bags, mobility requirements and planned purchases so the proposal reflects more than the number of seats.

Transport, tastings and the details between them
A chauffeur for the itinerary
A single transfer suits a direct journey to one address. A wine day with several appointments usually needs the vehicle retained between stops. Our hourly chauffeur service explains that approach, while Experience Packages in Hungary provide a starting point for a tailored day.
Countryside itineraries are quoted according to distance and time; the published Budapest hourly rates should not simply be multiplied into a wine-tour price. Your proposal should specify the route, vehicle, waiting time and any applicable parking, toll or additional-time arrangements.
Keep the reservations clear
Transport does not automatically include tastings, meals, entrance fees or a winery guide. Confirm those items in the written proposal and with the relevant estate. A private vehicle also does not, by itself, mean exclusive use of a tasting room.
Your wine-day brief
- Date, Budapest pickup address and preferred return time.
- Number of guests, bags and preferred vehicle.
- Chosen region and any winery appointments already confirmed.
- Tasting language, lunch plans and access requirements.
- Whether you want a same-day return or an overnight itinerary.

Autumn is a working season
Harvest can make a vineyard visit especially interesting, but it also changes what a winery can show. Ask about the visitor route, cellar access and food service for your actual date. Grape picking is not an automatic part of a tasting, and a terrace afternoon needs a wet-weather alternative. Choose the experience the estate can confirm, then let the transport plan support it.
Before the first tasting
Which wine region is closest to Budapest?
Among the five in this guide, Etyek is the shorter escape. Haraszthy publishes an approximate 30-minute reference from central Budapest, but your actual pickup and traffic matter. One tasting is a sensible basis for a shorter outing.
Can Tokaj be visited in a day from Budapest?
It can be planned as a long day, provided the appointments and return time are realistic. If you want two extended tastings, a leisurely lunch and dinner, consider staying overnight rather than compressing everything into a same-day return.
Can we visit several wine regions in one day?
For a first private wine day, we recommend choosing one region. The time spent moving between distant regions usually comes out of the tasting or lunch. Tell us your priorities if you are planning several days, and we can quote the transport for a broader itinerary.
Are English-language tastings available?
Several estates in this guide explicitly offer English, sometimes by prior request. Confirm the language on the winery reservation. An English-speaking chauffeur and an English-language winery host are separate arrangements.
Are winery tastings and lunch included in the chauffeur price?
Only when the written proposal explicitly includes them. Ask for the scope to separate transport, winery programs, food and any other charges. Confirm both the tasting and meal reservations before treating the itinerary as final.
Which vehicle should we choose for a private group?
Start with your headcount, then add luggage and comfort preferences. A V-Class suits a small party, a VIP Sprinter gives a small group a more spacious option, and a standard Sprinter accommodates larger groups. We confirm the specific configuration in the quote.
Do we need to book the wineries in advance?
Yes: build the day around confirmed visits, especially for groups, weekends and a requested language. A winery’s opening hours do not necessarily mean a guided tasting or production visit is available without an appointment.
Can guests who are not tasting still come?
Tell us who is joining and ask each winery about its program for accompanying guests. Non-alcoholic options, food, access to cellar routes and any admission arrangements need to be confirmed directly; they should not be assumed from the wine-tasting description.
Your region. Your company. A day worth taking slowly.
Tell us which wines interest you, who is coming and how much time you have. We will prepare a private chauffeur proposal for your wine day—from Budapest pickup to the return journey.
