Liszt Fest 2026: Budapest’s Autumn in Music, Art and Motion
Liszt’s Orpheus one evening, a room filled with electronic sound on another. This October, Budapest’s festival calendar rewards a little curiosity—and a well-chosen seat.
The Liszt Fest International Cultural Festival, known in Hungarian as Liszt Ünnep, runs October 8–22, 2026. Its announced program moves between orchestral music, jazz, electronic experimentation, dance, books and exhibitions. Below is the full current selection, with official links for every listing.

The nights that give this festival its range
The orchestral evenings
On October 13, Franz Welser-Möst and The Cleveland Orchestra bring Liszt’s Orpheus, Martinů’s Second Symphony and Brahms’s Second Symphony to Müpa. On October 21, Alan Gilbert, Leif Ove Andsnes and the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester pair Brahms’s Second Piano Concerto with Liszt and Ravel.
Vakhtang Kakhidze’s Requiem on October 17 brings the Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra together with Hungarian choirs and Georgian vocal ensembles. The Budapest classical program culminates on October 22 with Liszt’s Christus, performed by the Pannon Philharmonic, Hungarian National Choir and soloists under Gergely Kesselyák.
Smaller forces, new perspectives
London Sinfonietta’s Steve Reich 90 program includes Clapping Music, Electric Counterpoint, Radio Rewrite, Pulse and City Life, with guitarist Bálint Gyémánt. At BMC, Balázs Fülei and András Szalai revisit late Liszt through piano and cimbalom.
Elsewhere, the Snétberger Music Talent Centre’s anniversary brings students and teachers together across classical music and jazz. Secret Memories – Tihanyi 70 presents Arabesque and the premiere of The Iron Box. FrenÁk’s FrenÉsie and Duna Art Ensemble’s Romany Face add two distinct dance productions.
For the electronic opening night, Autechre perform in darkness. The official evening is listed at 20:00, with the main act scheduled for 21:30. Check the host venue’s latest running order when planning your arrival.

Art Market Budapest
October 15–18 · MTK Sports Park. Contemporary art and photography are joined by Art Photo Budapest, ART+ and the outdoor sCULTURE sculpture presentation. The venue is MTK Sports Park, Kerepesi út 17.

Autumn Margó Literary Festival
October 15–18 · National Dance Theatre, Millenáris. Author conversations, book launches and the Margó Prize sit alongside separately ticketed musical evenings. Invited international writers include Bernardo Atxaga, Beatriz Serrano and Karin Smirnoff.

The general literary program is free; MORDÁI, Thaw and the anniversary gala have their own tickets. Check each event’s language and any interpretation arrangements. The October 17 gala is explicitly listed as a Hungarian-language performance.
Walk This Way. The Art of Walking
Ludwig Museum · October 9, 2026–January 31, 2027. The exhibition looks at walking as an artistic practice and a way to investigate the world. Its festival listing starts October 9 at 10:00; consult the museum’s opening schedule for later visits.
Dedicated Ones
Hungarian National Gallery · October 21, 2026–February 14, 2027. Works by Hungarian women artists from the first half of the 20th century fill this exhibition. The festival listing starts October 21 at 10:00. Both exhibitions continue beyond the festival’s closing concert.
A later night at Isolation Budapest
The October 17 program at Akvárium brings together Fantastic Negrito, Charlotte Colace, Sorvina, Rikas, Last Hounds, Declan Welsh and the Decadent West, The Roving Chess Club, Walter Astral, Pénzes Máté és a Zseb, Prismala and Jeszcze.
The official stage schedule continues after midnight: Prismala starts at 00:00 and Jeszcze at 00:45, in the early hours of October 18. Those are performance starts. Set your return pickup around the acts you intend to stay for.

Keep the exact hall name with your booking. Müpa’s Festival Theatre, Glass Hall and Béla Bartók National Concert Hall host different events; the Liszt Academy, BMC and House of Music are separate destinations. The official venue guide lists practical arrival information.
The festival also takes you beyond the inner-city concert circuit: Margó is at Millenáris in Buda, Art Market is at MTK Sports Park, and the Hungarian National Gallery is in the Castle District. We agree a permitted pickup location for your chosen venue and leave time for the walk to the entrance, ticket checks and the cloakroom. When is Liszt Fest 2026?
The festival runs October 8–22, 2026. The two associated museum exhibitions continue into 2027; their full dates are listed above.
Is the October 18 Christus concert in Budapest?
No. October 18 is the Vienna performance at the Musikverein. The Budapest concert takes place at Müpa on October 22 at 19:00.
Can I book a private ride after the performance?
