IAH 2026 Budapest at a glance

The 53rd IAH World Groundwater Congress takes place September 14–18, 2026, at Budapest Congress Center. Under the theme “Groundwater — A Key Multi-Resource,” it combines a Monday field-trip day with four days of scientific sessions, professional meetings and social events.

Monday registration runs from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., followed by the Welcome Reception from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m. The scientific program opens Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. and continues through Friday.

The published program, day by day

Monday: field trips, registration and Welcome Reception. The organizer says field-trip applications are closed and onsite registration is not possible.

Tuesday: Opening Ceremony, keynotes and parallel sessions.

Wednesday: keynotes, sessions, plenary program and the IAH Annual General Meeting.

Thursday: plenary and parallel sessions, a 3D cave projection and Gala Dinner from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Friday: keynotes, sessions, distinguished lecture and the 2:00–3:00 p.m. Closing Ceremony, with some meetings and course activity listed afterward.

Venue and registration essentials

Use the full destination in every itinerary: Budapest Congress Center, Jagelló út 1–3, 1123 Budapest.

When checked on September 7, the official page displayed EUR 840 for IAH members, EUR 940 for non-members, EUR 550 for students or participants from low-income countries, and EUR 350 for accompanying persons. Full registration includes the scientific sessions, Welcome Reception, Gala Dinner, lunches Tuesday–Friday, coffee breaks and congress materials; field trips are excluded. Verify availability, eligibility and terms on the official registration page before payment.

Planning congress transportation in Budapest

Build the transfer plan around each delegate’s actual program. Monday arrivals may need to account for registration or the evening reception; Friday departures should allow for the closing and any later meeting or course on the individual agenda.
