1. Verstappen’s late-braking move on Hamilton
The defining overtake of the afternoon came at Turn 1, where Verstappen went deep on the brakes to clear Lewis Hamilton. On a circuit where clean air is worth more than raw pace, that single move set up the Dutchman’s run to second place.
2. Piastri’s retirement from the lead battle
Oscar Piastri led the opening stint after passing his team-mate at the start, but a gearbox problem ended his afternoon and removed the only genuine threat to Norris. McLaren’s one-two evaporated in a single lap.
3. Hamilton’s pit lane speeding penalty
A five-second penalty for exceeding the pit lane limit decided the intra-Ferrari duel. Charles Leclerc took fourth, Hamilton fifth — a small margin with meaningful championship consequences. Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas both retired, capping a difficult weekend for Cadillac.

The circuit sits in Mogyoród, roughly 20 kilometres northeast of central Budapest. On paper it is a short journey.
